Write a Terrific Toast With Your Kids

By Lily Iatridis  December 24, 2013

One of the things my family loves to do before we begin eating dinner is "clink" our glasses. On special occasions we give an informal toast or two, and clink glasses again. There's something about making sure that everyone clinks with everyone else every time that the kids absolutely love.

If your family enjoys the same tradition, why not have your kids create a toast to share before the clink? This can be a fun and simple writing activity. The video below describes dos and don'ts to a successful toast for both informal and formal occasions.

When your kids write something that they're going to share with others, it does two things for them:

  • They take a lot more care with the quality of their work when they know it's not going to be the usual person who hears it, and
  • Their confidence in their written work grows hugely as they get comfortable sharing in front of a small group!
