Homeschooling: Effective Praise Motivates Kids

By Lily Iatridis  April 3, 2014

While last week's video taught about strong feedback, this week we're focusing on one often overlooked aspect of feedback: effective praise.

Which example of praise is more powerful?

A. "That's good!"

B. "Your written explanations are so clear and specific. Good work!"

If you answered B, you're correct. The praise in answer B tells the student WHY their work is good, and it tells WHAT is good about it. That's effective praise.

All too easily we fall into the habit of telling our kids that their work is "good" and stop there. But what does "good" really mean in that context?

Watch the short video below explaining how to easily and consistently give effective praise that will truly motivate your kids.

Please make a conscious effort to use effective praise. Let me know how it works for you by commenting below!
