Build Homeschool Vocabulary with Anagrams

By Lily Iatridis  September 23, 2014

VIDEO THUMBN: Summer: anagramsScrabble, tongue twisters, seek and find - you name it. Wordplay builds vocabulary and helps language development at any age or grade level.

Have your kids done wordplay with anagrams? Anagrams get kids to think creatively about letter combinations and learn new vocabulary while playing what feels like a game.

Here's a spooky anagram for Elvis: lives. Whoa!

When your kids get bored with memorizing spelling words, create anagrams from those words instead! It's another way to practice spelling.

Watch the video below for an explanation on how to use anagrams, where to find an online resource for all things anagram, and a reminder of that all too famous anagram Harry Potter fans will know!

For younger children, create an anagram matching exercise from the website given in the video. On a page, list words in one column and their anagrams in a column to the right in different order. Kids then draw lines matching the anagrams.

Have you ever played with anagrams? Let us know with your comments below. :)
