Build Homeschooler Vocabulary with Two Activities

By Lily Iatridis  September 12, 2014

What do you do with all those words you don't know or can't pronounce?

Make a weird word list!

Weird words is an easy activity that builds your kids vocabulary without making it look like work. The weirder the word, the better. The longer the list, the better. Before you know it, you and your kids could start sounding like college professors!

Please watch the video below describing how to set up the activity and continue it through the course of the year.

After you watch, extend it further with a contest to see who uses weird words in the right context the most. The winner could get to choose the next family field trip!

Remember, there is always a way to tweak traditional activities to make them fun and engaging for your kids. Weird words is one of many alternatives to weekly vocabulary quizzes.

You don't have to rely on electronics... just think out of the box!
