Persuasive Writing for Fun: Plan a Family Vacation

By Lily Iatridis  July 23, 2014

Have your kids been begging you to take them to Disney or elsewhere on a vacation for years? Have you and your spouse always had good reason not to go?

Now here's a persuasive writing activity that will practice your kids' abilities, and it'll exercise a whole lot more than writing skills.

Have them plan a family trip! You set the parameters around the budget, timing, or mode of travel, and let them take it from there.

Who knows? They might come up with a way to make the trip one the family could actually take -- maybe not this summer, but the next.

Wouldn't that make this activity a gigantic motivator for them?

Here are a few of the skills they would practice in the process:

  • Notetaking
  • Organization
  • Geography
  • Math
  • Presentation skills

Watch the video below where I outline in detail how this would work for a true-to-life trip and how to incorporate the above bulleted skills.

Of course you can always tweak it to suit your kids' interests. Nobody knows them better than you!

This idea was contributed by Susan Williams of Education Possible. Thanks Susan!
